Entrance requirements are covered. NFPA 1003 presents a detailed description of the job performance requirements, divided into four major duties response, fire suppression, rescue, and post-emergency operations.

The 2010 edition of NFPA 1003

·   Adds a skills maintenance requirement.

·   Removes the PrPPE requirement in favor of a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirement

·   Removed requirements in Chapter 5 that are duplicated in NFPA 1001.

·   Clarifies the Theoretical Critical Area (TCA) and provides instruction on using formulas.
