UNI CEI 11170-3 Fire Test to railway components – Italian Standard Brief
UNI CEI 11170-3, This part of the standard defines the test methods for evaluating the materials fire behaviour on a laboratory scale, as well as their evaluation criteria referred to the specific conditions of use and the vehicle’s particular operating class and type.
The characteristics of a fire are quite different depending on the ignition source for the material concerned aswell as the surrounding materials, the ambient characteristics and fire dynamics, the ambient conditions andlayout, the ventilation conditions, etc.
The evaluation and classification of materials in accordance with the procedures defined in this part of the standard do therefore not aim at establishing the absolute levels for the risks of fires caused by the materials installed: they aim at providing instructions capable of reducing the fire hazard on the vehicles and protect both the passengers and the crew as best as possible
UNI CEI 11170-3 Fire Test to railway components - Scope:
UNI CEI 11170-3, The test methods specified in this standard shall be applied to all the materials and components (both structural and non-structural) used both to make new vehicles and to renovate the vehicles currently being operated, as well as to the materials/components used to manufacture the ordinary spare parts.
UNI CEI 11170-3 Fire Test to railway components - Classification:
There are 4 classification in the standard:
LR1, LR2, LR3, LR4
