AS 1530.4 Fire Resistance Test to Building Material – Standard Brief
> Abstract
Sets out test procedures and criteria for the determination of fire-resistance of elements of building construction. Follows the basic principles and provisions contained in ISO 834.
> Scope
This Standard provides methods for determining the fire resistance of various elements of construction when subjected to standard fire exposure conditions.
NOTES:
(1) Radiant heat measurements are given in Appendix A.
(2) Alternative heating and radiation exposure conditions, which may be used for evaluation of alternative solutions, voluntary upgrades and other applications where the standard heating regime may not be applicable, and additional procedures to meet special requirements are given in Appendix B.
(3) Unless one of the alternative heating regimes is specifically required, the standard time temperature curve applies
(4) AS 1720.4, AS 3600, AS 3700 and AS 4100 may also be used to determine the fire resistance of an element of construction.
(5) The assessment of smoke production and smoke spread when testing specimens is outside the scope of this Standard. Significant smoke spread or smoke production can occur even though an element of construction may have achieved high FRLs. Other test methods, such as AS 1530.7, may be considered when evaluating the potential for smoke spread.
> Application
Fire hazard assessment
Each test shall be performed in accordance with the general requirements of Section 2 and the following Sections, as appropriate:
(a) AS/NZS 1530.4 Section 3: fire resistance test to wall
(b) AS/NZS 1530.4 Section 4: fire resistance test to Floors, roofs and ceilings.
(c) AS/NZS 1530.4 Section 5: fire resistance test to Columns
(d) AS/NZS 1530.4 Section 6: fire resistance test to Beams, girders and trusses.
(e) AS/NZS 1530.4 Section 7: fire resistance test to Doorsets and shutter assemblies.
(f) AS/NZS 1530.4 Section 8: fire resistance test to Uninsulated glazing.
(g) AS/NZS 1530.4 Section 9: fire resistance test to Air ducts.
(h) AS/NZS 1530.4 Section 10: fire resistance test to Service penetrations and control joints.
(i) AS/NZS 1530.4 Section 11: fire resistance test to Fire damper and air transfer grille assemblies.
(j) AS/NZS 1530.4 Section 12: fire resistance test Critical services.
The requirements in Sections 3 to 12 shall take precedence over the general requirements of Section 2.
NOTES:
(1) The results of the fire tests may be used to directly assess fire hazard, but it should be recognized that a single test method will not provide a full assessment of fire hazard under all fire conditions.
(2) The test methods follow the basic principles and procedures contained in international Standards, including ISO 834.
