Basotect adds to that special Porsche sound

BASF says its Basotect foam is providing auto enthusiasts with the “typical Porsche engine sound” as the material is providing sound insulation in the engine of the Panamera Diesel.

Basotect is an open-cell foam used to absorb sound in vehicles whenever there are high operating temperatures over an extended period of time. In the Panemera, the foam is used in the four-door engine compartment, transmission tunnel and panelling near the engine.

In addition, Basotect is low weight and heat resistant, says BASF.

With its 284kW/250 HP six-cylinder diesel engine, the Panamera’s engine compartment is regularly subjected to temperatures of up to 180°C,” says Jürgen Ochs from Porsche. “And Basotect withstands these extreme conditions.”

The material has a density of 9kg/m³, reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

The Panamera was exhibited for the first time at the Shanghai Motor Show in 2009, as the fourth model series from Porsche. The model is now available in variants including Hybrid, Diesel, GTS, Turbo and Turbo S.
