Imports of polypropylene in Peru became active again after four months of weak demand when inventories of the product were high, a trader in the country said Tuesday.
"It seems the import market is going to be improved now that inventories in the country went down, and many customers are back this week asking for offers," the source said.
The lowest polypropylene offers in the Peruvian market were from Korea, at $1,500/mt CFR for homo polymer and at $1,530/mt CFR for co-polymer, a drop of $40-50/mt compared with last week.
Bids in the country were around $1,470/mt CFR for homo polymer and at $1,500/mt CFR for co-polymer.
Colombian polypropylene offers to Peru were expected to go down again for June by at least $100/mt in order to be competitive again against the Korean offers.
May PP offers to Colombia fall $190/mt over April to $1,650/mt CFR for homo raffia, $1,660/mt CFR for homo injection, $1,670/mt CFR for homo film and at $1,700/mt CFR for co-polymer.
Some polypropylene buyers in Peru said they didn't receive any Brazilian offers in May.
