A huge fire broke out at a foam factory on Monday night, causing widespread damage to the contents of adjoining warehouses used as storage and furniture workshops, Lieutenant Khamis Ebrahim, the acting deputy director of Umm Al Quwain Civil Defence said on Tuesday.
The fire broke out at 11.40pm on Monday, Lieutenant Ebrahim said.
The Umm Al Quwain Civil Defence in cooperation with Sharjah and Ajman Civil Defence managed to bring the fire under control within 20 minutes of it being first reported, and no injuries were reported, Lieutenant Ebrahim added.
The foam factory was located in the old industrial area and was used for the manufacture and storage of materials, wood and foam, Lieutenant Ebrahim said.
A rescue team evacuated the factory and nearby buildings to ensure workers’ safety, Lieutenant Ebrahim added.
Police patrols formed units to close down all roads leading to the factory, he added, which allowed firefighters and ambulance personnel to enter the area without obstruction, leading to the fire being brought under control quickly, he added.
Lieutenant Ebrahim pointed out that “the severity of the fire and the presence of strong winds led to the fire spreading to the warehouses adjacent to the factory, but firefighting units were able to control the fire.”
