CLEVELAND, January 23, 2013 – The Lubrizol Corporation announces the launch of eight new aromatic products from Lubrizol LifeScience Polymers. These materials are an extension of the CarbothaneTM line of polycarbonate-based thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) and encompass a range of grades and radiopacities.
Compared with current technologies, aromatic Carbothane TPU features stronger material, improved chemical resistance and increased resistance to creep. These new products are suitable for long-term implantation applications, including catheters and devices introduced in the body for durations of more than 30 days, and for permanent implants used in spinal and orthopedic applications.
“These aromatic products are an important addition to the Carbothane family of polycarbonate-based TPUs,” said Ralf Hüther, global business manager of Lubrizol LifeScience Polymers. “Customers who are looking for a product with notable material strength and enhanced chemical resistance will find aromatic Carbothane an attractive option, especially for implantable devices that are designed to remain in the body for long periods of time.”
The new aromatic Carbothane TPU from Lubrizol is available in four clear grades and four radiopaque grades, which include a 20 percent loading of barium sulfate. All grades of aromatic Carbothane carry all the necessary regulatory credentials.
Lubrizol’s LifeScience Polymers group is focused on linking science to life through the development of innovative polymer solutions and world-class support services for the healthcare industry. Adding to their advanced line of polycarbonate-based TPU products is one of the numerous ways in which LifeScience Polymers meets the needs of the medical devices market daily.
Lubrizol’s aromatic Carbothane TPU will be featured at the 2013 Medical Design & Manufacturing West Conference in Anaheim, Calif., Feb. 12-14. Visit booth 2312 for more information about these new products.
