Plymouth-based Johnson Controls Inc. is expanding production and employment at its plant in East London, South Africa, adding door panel production to the auto interiors facility.
The site will add 200 new jobs and about 140,000 square feet of space for three assembly lines, JCI announced in a March 19 news release.
The facility already makes headliners and instrument panels for Daimler AG's Mercedes Benz C Class sedans. Johnson Controls said that auto production in South Africa has grown steadily since it launched manufacturing in the country in 1994.
The plant is part of the automotive electronics and interiors group for JCI.
