The "Dow Formulated Systems" business unit of Dow Chemical has introduced the “Voraforce” TP polyurethane system for manufacturing composites by pultrusion, which enables the fabrication of strong, tough and durable composites used in industrial and domestic applications, including windows, building profiles, electrical infrastructure and civil engineering. The company displayed examples from its range of PU pultrusion systems at “JEC Europe 2013”, held from 12 to 14 March 2013 in Paris / France.
The company said that during tests with pultruded PU, it noted improved toughness and fibre wetting, fast reaction and low emission properties at a significantly higher pultrusion speed. Guido Bramante, research scientist at Dow’s composite group, said: “Analysing C-shaped pultruded profiles, our research team has found a significant cost savings potential in raw material, as compared to unsaturated polyester, which makes this a really attractive offering to composite fabricators.”
