US based coatings specialist, PPG Industries, has started manufacturing protective and marine coatings (PMC) at its facility in Ostrów Wielkopolski, Poland, in a bid to support its regional PMC business expansion.

The facility, which previously produced architectural coatings, was part of PPG’s January 2012 acquisition of Dyrup AS. PPG moved architectural coatings production from this site to its manufacturing complex in Wroclaw, Poland – one of the company’s largest sites worldwide.

PPG now uses the facility to produce PMC products for the construction, petrochemical, shipbuilding and energy industries, including epoxy, hardener, alkyd, acrylic, zinc and polyurethane coatings.

“The Ostrów manufacturing plant is a key part of our strategy to grow and expand in this region," said Tim Knavish, vice president, protective and marine coatings, PPG.

"It has been transformed into one of PPG’s most modern and efficient manufacturing facilities and the strategic investment will strengthen our position in fast growing markets throughout central and Eastern Europe, Russia and Turkey,” he added.

PPG’s PMC business produces lines such as the SIGMA COATNGS(R) and AMERCOAT(R) brands, which protect assets in some of the world’s most demanding conditions and environments, such as projects in energy, infrastructure and marine markets.
