Car parts manufacturer Delphi Automotive has opened a new 8,000 square meter production hall at its plant in Tatabánya, Hungary. The project will double the factory's output and create about 100 new jobs at the production facility.
The investment in Tatabánya is worth about 11.3 million euros, the Hungarian Government said in a statement. The facility is about 60 kilometers from Budapest.
With the plant's expansion completed, the Tatabánya-based facility has a workforce of some 1,200. A further 200 new jobs could be created by 2015, according to the statement.
Delphi's product portfolio includes automotive wiring, including injection molded connectors and various plastic parts.
Péter Szijjártó, Hungary's State Secretary for Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations, said that Delphi's expansion in Tatabánya contributes to the country's efforts to become a regional automotive production hub. The Hungarian government is currently negotiating a strategic cooperation agreement with the U.S. manufacturer, Szijjártó said.
Delphi currently owns three production facilities in Hungary, located in Tatabánya, Balassagyarmat and Szombathely. The factories have an aggregate workforce of more than 3,000. Delphi expanded into the Hungarian market in 1991 with the launch of its plant in Szombathely.
