Elasto Proxy Announces Acoustic Insulation and Sound Dampening Foams

Zoom  Zoom Issue Date:2013-12-05   Source:PUWORLD   Browse:579

Elasto Proxy, supplier of specialty seals and custom-fabricated rubber parts, is announcing high-quality products for acoustic insulation, thermal insulation, and vibration damping. Commercial, industrial, and military buyers can choose from a wide selection of standard insulating products, or ask about Elasto Proxy抯 design and custom-fabrication capabilities.

Insulation for sound, vibration, and heat is used in military vehicles, mobile specialty vehicles, and building and construction products. For example, military transports use engine insulation to dampen sounds from large, high-decibel diesel engines that make it difficult for drivers and passengers to hear. Insulation within the cab or cockpit is also used to dampen noise and vibration, and to disperse heat.

Acoustic and Thermal Insulation

Acoustic insulation is usually made of polyethylene (PE) or polyester foams that allow sound waves to bounce off. These sound dampening materials may also include a sound absorbing barrier for blocking unwanted noise. Most acoustic insulation has an open cellular structure that permits the passage of air. Closed cell acoustic foams are used in underwater applications.

Elasto Proxy offers thermal insulation for absorbing or deflecting heat. Self-extinguishing firestocks are also available. With heat insulation, material properties are important to consider. Silicone compounds may be recommended, especially for applications (such as engine cabs) that require both acoustic and thermal insulation.

Vibration Dampening

Vibration damping products are used in both shock absorbers and floor matting. With shock absorbers, microcellular urethane at the end of the pin supplements the shock absorption from the coils or springs. With floor mats like the ones used in military vehicles, vibration damping products help protect soldiers from the vibrations (shock or blast waves) caused by improved explosive devices (IEDs).

Unlike open cell foam acoustic insulation, vibration damping products are usually made of closed cell foam or even solid materials. To reduce shock and vibrations, a foam material that won抰 rip or break may be sandwiched in the middle. Depending on the application, a solid material of varying durometer (duro) or hardness can be used instead. For more information, ask Elasto Proxy.
