CompositesWorld, publisher of Composites Technology and High-Performance Composites magazines, as well as the CompositesWorld Weekly e-newsletter, reports that the agenda is beginning to take shape for the 2014 version of its annual Carbon Fiber conference. It will be held Dec. 9-11 at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines in La Jolla, Calif., USA.
The conference will be co-chaired this year by Tia Benson-Tolle, director of advanced materials, poroduct development, Boeing Commercial Airplanes, and Doug Ward, consulting engineer-composites, GE Aviation.
Among the already-confirmed speakers will be Ross Kozarsky, an analyst with Lux Research Inc. (Boston, Mass. USA), who will discuss "Innovating Carbon Fiber Composites: Tackling the Major Challenges for Unlocking New Market Opportunities."
Kozarsky notes that "the excellent propertes of carbon fiber composites have long allured material developers and industry users alike. However, due to high costs and other technical hurdles, thus far their use has largely been restricted to small volume applications."
His presentation will:
- Review Lux Research’s carbon fiber cost modeling and market forecast analyses
- Examine the major challenges – including cost, throughput, recycling and compatibility of novel resin systems and surface treatments – to be overcome for enabling commercialization in higher volume applications
- Identify key developers working on disruptive innovations
