Gurit (Zullwil, Switzerland) a global supplier of composite materials, engineering, tooling, parts and systems reported on Aug. 1 that it will introduce several new products for the automotive and defense industries at Composites Europe, Oct. 7-9 in Düsseldorf, Germany. For higher temperature cosmetic carbon fiber applications up to a 160°C/320°F, Gurit will highlight SC 160 prepreg, for use in autoclave, using the same unique chemistry as Gurit SC 110 cosmetic carbon prepreg. Gurit will also launch SE 160 prepreg, suitable for high-volume compression molding techniques, offering fast/snap cure with hot in/out processing. Gurit will also launch its ballistic protection prepreg PF700. The company says PF700 has been developed to meet FST (flame, smoke, toxicity) requirements and conforms to the threat levels required by this market. PF700 is suitable for production of flat panels in a press molding process or for more complex parts by autoclave.
