Global MDI Demand to Outpace Total World GDP Growth

Global methylene di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) demand indicated considerable downward slips during the crisis period, which largely rested on the trends in such large-scale industries as energy, automotive and construction segments. With the revival here, considerable new infrastructure projects, and government back-up packages the MDI market has again caught the wave. The global demand is expected to largely outpace the total world GDP growth in the years to come.

The key consumption region on the world MDI arena is China. Demand here has been strong for a number of years at raw and has reached around 16% annually. The demand is to be balanced here with new projects that are coming on stream and expansions of the existing capacities. Moreover Europe is also seeing significant capacity increases by key producers. Central and Eastern European countries play a valuable role as primary MDI consumers on the regional market.
