El Puente, a polyethylene and polypropylene Brazilian distributor in Paraguay, reported a 30% resin demand increase in September compared to August.
"At this time of the year customers start to buy for the end of the year festivities, and historically volumes tend to be better until November," said a company source. During September, the Brazilian polyethylene offers to Paraguay were at $1,600/mt CPT for HDPE film, $1,640/mt CPT for HDPE injection and blow molding, and LLDPE butene, as well as $1,830/mt CPT for LDPE film. Brazilian polypropylene offers were heard at $1,900/mt CPT for homo, $1,950/mt CPT for co-polymer, and at $2,030/mt CPT for random. "We felt some scarcity of HDPE film this month, but for the other resins availability was normal," added the source.
September resin offers from Asia to Mercosur weren't as competitive as they were two months ago, said a buyer. Asian polyethylene offers to Mercosur were $60-100/mt lower than the Brazilian ones at $1,540/mt CFR for HDPE blow molding, film and injection, and for LLDPE butene. LLDPE offers to Mercosur were $120/mt lower at $1,520/mt CFR. Two months ago the delta between Asian and Brazilian offers to Mercosur was $200/mt or more.
