Klaussner Home Furnishings is set to launch a co-branding program with Cargill BiOH aimed at educating consumers about the environmental benefits of purchasing furniture with foam cushioning made, in part, from renewable resources.
As part of the effort, Klaussner said it will use cushioning made with Cargill's BiOH polyols, an ingredient derived from soybean oil, in all of its domestically produced Klaussner-branded upholstery.
The program includes point-of-sale materials for dealers that explain the environmental benefits of using soybean oil derivatives such as BiOH, which replace a portion of the petroleum used in foam cushioning production.
"KHF is a longstanding user of Cargill BiOH polyols in its foam process," said Bill Wittenberg, Klaussner president and CEO. "It's long been evident to us that when shoppers at retail are offered the option of a product that is more environmentally friendly, they will select the more eco-friendly product."
The co-branding program will be unveiled at this month's High Point Market.
According to Cargill, the percentage of soy content depends on the type of foam used. The company estimates that every 1 million pounds of BiOH polyols used in furniture and mattresses saves more than 92,000 gallons of petroleum.
