The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency or DARPA has announced that they will be set to launch a test flight of the Falcon Hypersonic Technology Vehicle 2 today between 10 am and 4 pm eastern time from the Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. The Falcon HTV-2, which is the fastest plane ever built, capable of reaching any target in the world in less than an hour, will be launched off a Minotaur IV rocket and then renter the earth’s atmosphere over the Pacific. Fast enough to travel coast to coast in just 12 minutes, the hypersonic plane will reach speeds up to 13,000 miles per hour, which is roughly 20 times the speed of sound.
