CertainTeed Corporation is creating greater flexibility for its customers and greater safety for homeowners with a new, best-in-class ignition barrier, CertaCoat IC Intumescent Coating. Designed for use with CertainTeed's CertaSpray open cell polyurethane spray foam, CertaCoat IC is a single-component, latex-based coating that enhances the fire-rated performance of CertaSpray open cell foam insulation and delivers superior coverage at 200-square feet per gallon. CertaCoat IC is specifically designed to provide an ignition barrier over CertaSpray open cell foam in attics or crawlspaces where access is restricted to service of utilities.
CertaCoat IC complies with the AC377 Appendix X requirements, the modified room corner test as approved by ICC-ES and is listed in ESR 2668. Under this new requirement, all surfaces in an attic or crawlspace with restricted access to service of utilities must be covered with an ignition barrier, such as CertaCoat IC or fiberglass batts. Providing contractors enhanced flexibility, CertaCoat IC can be administered with an airless sprayer, roller or brush. In addition, CertaCoat IC is a latex-based product and easily cleans up with water.
"With the addition of CertaCoat IC to our product offering, CertainTeed is helping to increase the energy efficiency and safety in homes and buildings," said Paul Valle, president of CertainTeed Insulation. "Contractors now have a single source for both spray foam and an ignition barrier, streamlining the process of meeting code requirements."
Designed to solve tough installation requirements, CertaSpray foam insulation provides an effective seal, which reduces energy loss and improves the indoor air quality. CertaSpray helps meet the requirements of an ENERGY STAR home and is only installed by CertainTeed qualified contractors in order to achieve the most rigorous quality standards.
