Fire rips through PPR Wipag’s Dover plant

A specialist plastics recycling plant in Kent has been badly damaged by fire. It took more than seven hours for fire teams to put out the blaze at the PPR Wipag plant in Dover.

A senior fire officer confirmed that the fire was started initially by an electrical fault. It then spread extensively before fire officers could get it under control.

Eyewitnesses described palls of black smoke rising into the air and staff on duty were evacuated under emergency procedures but no injuries were reported.

PPR Wipag, which specialises in recycling plastic components from the auto industry, has so far declined comment on the incident.

Through its specialist processes the company is able to recycle plastic auto components to make a product of exactly the same specification as the one used originally.
