Bayer Reviews Potential Regulatory Changes

Tampa, FL, February 02, 2012 --(PR.com)-- As part of its Enhanced Chemical Management Program, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released Chemical Action Plans (CAPs) for the polyurethane raw materials methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) and toluene diisocyanate (TDI). MDI and TDI are used in the production of polyurethane foams for the construction and furniture industries, as well as polyurethane coatings and elastomers for the industrial, commercial and automotive industries.

At Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC) Conference 2012, Bayer MaterialScience LLC provided an update on regulatory changes that could result from the CAP initiative. Barbara Cummings, manager of product safety, Product Safety & Regulatory Affairs, Bayer MaterialScience LLC, presented “A Review of the Elements of the EPA’s Chemical Action Plan on MDI and TDI Containing Products,” at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 1.

Cummings reviewed EPA’s current approach for comprehensive chemical management, as well as ways in which the chemical industry can respond, including:

· Understanding the products that may be impacted,

· Evaluating company product stewardship efforts, and

· Considering the industry’s reaction to potential EPA actions.
